If your coffee machine broke down and you bought a new one, you're ready for a nice cup of coffee. When using a new coffee machine for the first time, it is important to know that the first 15 or so cups of coffee will be watery. The brewing system of the fully automatic coffee machine still has to adjust itself properly. Do you still have watery coffee after that? Then use the tips below to remedy this.
Set coffee strength and cup size correctly
With watery coffee, the ratio of coffee to water may be set incorrectly. You can make 2 adjustments to this:
1. Adjust the coffee strength
A higher coffee strength uses more coffee beans compared to the same amount of water. At a higher strength, your coffee is less watery.
2. Adjust the amount of coffee per serve
By default, your coffee machine is set to dispense a certain amount of coffee per serve. On a DeLonghi Magnifica S, for example, this is 120ml. You can easily adjust this amount, as you will find instructions for this in this blog. For watery coffee, you can reduce the amount per serve slightly, making your cup stronger and less watery.
Adjust the grind level
With a fine grind, the ground coffee grain is smaller than with a coarser grind. As a result, the water passes through the ground coffee less quickly and absorbs more coffee flavour, giving your coffee a stronger flavour. An incorrectly set grind gives watery coffee. Read all about setting the right grind level in this blog.
Select the right coffee beans
The type of coffee beans also affects the result of your cup of coffee. If you use inferior quality coffee beans, your coffee machine may make a watery cup of coffee. Use high-quality coffee beans to prevent your beans from being the problem.
Clean the brewing unit
A clean brewing unit ensures the best results when preparing a cup of coffee. Does your coffee machine have a removable brewing unit? Rinse it weekly under the running tap. We also recommend cleaning your brewing unit every fortnight using Eccellente Cleaning Tablets. This will remove all remaining coffee residues.
